Put Down the Cake and Step Away from the Cubicle

Want to know why millions of Americans are overweight? I'll tell you. Because right now, this stale, dry chocolate pound cake is the only remote sense of pleasure I can get out of this insane work day.

I arrived to the office late this morning, sat down and didn't get up until 4.5 hours later. I didn't even stop for a drink of water or a bathroom break. Is it my fault that I don't take care of my basic human needs? Certainly.

But there is also an enormous workload that's being piled on many workers, because positions have been eliminated but there's still more work than ever before that needs to get done. And because of the sad state of the economy, we are told by leaders in corporate America, as well as our peers, that we should be thankful to have a job. So deal with it. Everyone is doing the work of two people. Stop whining.

So we stop whining, stuff our disappointments down with another swig of Starbucks; another cookie provided by the company as we celebrate a new product launch; another bite of stale pound cake. How many of us are just numb from the demands in our life, the lack of support at home and on the job, the bitterness of not having the life of our dreams?

This blog is my attempt to make sense of it all. Because I've reached a breaking point. Surely, this is not the life that Christ died so that we could have life more abundantly. I'm going to find the answers - and I hope you'll join me on the journey.

John 10:10

The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.
